The castor plant (Ricinus communis) is a fast-growing shrub with large, glossy, lobed leaves, native to East Africa and also grown in Ghana. Its seeds produce castor oil, used for hair care, skin moisturising, and industrial purposes. The plant grows best in sunny, well-drained soils and can reach 2–5 meters tall. Seeds are toxic if raw, so only processed oil is safe for use. It’s also grown as an ornamental plant due to its striking foliage.
